Bulbs to ever replace
Hexagon LED lights are among the lowest-maintenance light fittings available. They have no bulbs to replace, no starters to fail, and no tubes to degrade within a normal warranty period. The primary routine is keeping the panels free of dust and verifying that connectors remain secure. Beyond that, quality systems like HEXA's will operate for years without requiring attention.
The minimal maintenance required by hexagon LED lights is itself one of the strongest arguments for choosing LED over older technologies. But "minimal" does not mean "none." The routines below will extend the useful life of your system and allow you to catch any emerging issues before they become failures.

Regular Cleaning: How and How Often
In a garage or workshop environment, dust and airborne particles from tools, lubricants, and materials will settle on the panel surfaces. A build-up of dust on the LED face reduces light output and can, in extreme cases, contribute to heat build-up. Clean the panels every 3-6 months in active workshop environments. In a cleaner residential gym or retail setting, once or twice per year is typically sufficient.
How to clean safely:
- Turn the system off and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before cleaning.
- Use a dry or very slightly damp microfibre cloth. Do not use wet cloths, spray cleaners, or abrasive materials.
- Wipe the panel faces gently. Do not apply pressure directly to the LED array.
- Clean the cable and connectors with a dry cloth only.
- Do not use solvents, window cleaner, or any liquid product on the panels.
Annual Connector Check
The modular connectors that link panels together are the most common point of failure in any modular hex lights system. Thermal cycling (the system heating up during use and cooling down when off) can cause connectors to work slightly loose over years of use. An annual check takes two minutes:
- Visually inspect each connector junction for any sign of discolouration, corrosion, or physical damage.
- Give each connector a gentle push to confirm it is fully seated.
- If a connector shows signs of corrosion or heat damage, contact HEXA for advice, as this may indicate a loose connection generating heat (a fire risk that should be addressed promptly).
Driver Ventilation
The LED driver is the power supply for the system. It generates a small amount of heat during operation and needs adequate airflow to maintain its operating temperature within rated limits. If your system is ceiling-mounted in an enclosed ceiling cavity with poor ventilation, the driver may run hotter than optimal.
Ensure the driver unit is not covered by insulation or debris, particularly in roof spaces where insulation batts can shift over time. HEXA drivers are rated for the operating temperatures found in standard Australian residential installations, but maintaining clear airflow around the driver extends its service life.
What the HEXA Warranty Covers
HEXA's 7-year domestic warranty covers manufacturing defects in the panels, driver, and connectors under normal use. It does not cover:
- Physical damage from impact or misuse
- Water damage from direct moisture exposure
- Installation errors (connecting to a voltage outside the rated spec)
- Modifications to the system
For any system issue within the warranty period, contact HEXA directly. Do not attempt to open or repair the driver unit yourself, as this will void the warranty and, in the case of a hardwired system, may require a licensed electrician to reconnect.
What to Do When a Panel Stops Working
If a single panel in your system stops illuminating:
- Check the connector at that panel first. A partially seated connector is the most common cause.
- If the connector is secure, check whether other panels on the same circuit are also affected (this would suggest a driver or power issue rather than a panel failure).
- If only one panel is dark and connectors are secure, the LED driver for that panel may have failed. Contact HEXA if within the warranty period.
Quality hexagon LED lights from HEXA very rarely fail within the warranty period. The 70,000-hour rated lifespan and 7-year domestic warranty reflect the reliability of the components used. Frequently asked questions
How do you maintain hexagon LED lights?
Hexagon LED lights require very little maintenance. Dust the panels every few months with a dry microfibre cloth, check connector integrity annually, and ensure ventilation around the driver unit is not blocked. Quality LED systems like HEXA rarely need any other attention.
How often should you clean hexagon lights?
In a garage or workshop environment, dust the panels every 3-6 months. In a clean residential environment, once or twice a year is typically sufficient.
Can you use water to clean LED lights?
No. Never spray water directly onto any LED fitting. Use a dry or very slightly damp cloth only. Moisture can damage the driver electronics and void the warranty.
What should I do if a hexagon light panel stops working?
First check that the panel connector is fully seated. If the connector is secure and the panel still does not illuminate, check the driver unit and power supply. If the system is within the HEXA warranty period (7 years domestic), contact HEXA for a replacement.
